Dedicated fiber, leased lines, DIA
Dedicated fiber to your building in the Netherlands
A fiber line that runs only to your building, with its own connection point. In other countries this is called a leased line or dedicated internet access. We arrange it via KPN, Eurofiber, Odido, Ziggo or Fore Fiber, anywhere in the Netherlands, from €279 a month.
The fiber and the connection point are yours alone
The network lays a fiber from its own network straight into your building and installs a connection point there, the glass switch. Your router or firewall connects to it. In the Netherlands this product is called FTTO, fiber to the office.
- No shared splitter
- Shared business fiber splits one fiber over several buildings. A dedicated line has its own fiber and its own port at the network.
- The same speed up and down
- From 100 Mbit/s to 4 Gbit/s at KPN and up to 5 Gbit/s at Eurofiber, with a symmetrical profile. Useful for cloud backups, video calls and site-to-site VPNs.
- A fixed repair time
- With a higher service level, the contract states how fast the network fixes a fault. At the top level that is 4 to 8 hours, day and night.
- A fixed IPv4 address
- Included as standard. A larger block of addresses is possible.
- Faster later without digging
- Within the same connection the speed can go up. For 2 or 4 Gbit/s a heavier connection is needed.
- Guaranteed bandwidth is an option
- In the standard version the bandwidth is not guaranteed; the network does not give your traffic priority. With the Premium version the speed is guaranteed, at extra cost. We price both for you.
Five networks can lay a dedicated line
Which network can reach your building, and at what cost, differs per address. That is why we request the line from several networks at once. On many business parks two or three of them are already present.
We measured this on ten business parks in the east of the Netherlands. On Centerpoort-Nieuwgraaf in Duiven, the fiber of at least one network was already in or at 17 of the 24 buildings we checked. See the measurement (in Dutch).
| Network | Speeds | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| KPN | 100 Mbit/s to 4 Gbit/s | The largest network, present on many business parks. With a spare fiber available, sometimes delivered within 4 weeks. |
| Eurofiber | 200 Mbit/s to 5 Gbit/s | Its own fiber network, strong on business parks and near data centres. |
| Fore Fiber | 250 Mbit/s to 1 Gbit/s | A regional network. Where it is present, from €105 a month, on 36-month contracts only. |
| Odido and Ziggo | Up to 1 Gbit/s | Business fiber over their own networks. Sometimes the fastest route when their cable is already in the street. |
A dedicated line costs €279 a month and up
Prices exclude VAT and apply to a 36-month contract on business parks and other addresses close to the network. Elsewhere €50 a month is added, and a little more far from the exchange. A 12-month contract is always possible at a higher monthly price.
Installation is usually free when the fiber is already in the building or the street. If the network has to dig further, you get a fixed price up front and we look for the cheapest route.
The quote shows the monthly price at 12 and at 36 months, the installation cost, the service level with its repair time, the fixed IPv4 address and the expected lead time.
| Speed | Typical use | Per month from |
|---|---|---|
| 100 Mbit/s | Up to 15 people, email and cloud applications | €279 |
| 200 Mbit/s | 15 to 40 people, frequent video calls, a VPN to another site | €299 |
| 500 Mbit/s | 40 to 100 people, cloud desktops, daytime backups | €345 |
| 1 Gbit/s | Production with machines on the network, several sites | €445 |
| 2 or 4 Gbit/s | Large files every day. Above 2 Gbit/s via KPN or Eurofiber; 4 Gbit/s from €699. | €599 |
Every network offers three service levels
The names differ per network. The top level, with repairs day and night, is ordered as an add-on. The exact terms are in the quote. For a dedicated line the price difference between the levels is small.
| Basic | Middle | Top | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Work is done | During office hours | During office hours | Day and night, also at weekends |
| Response to your report | On working days | Faster, on working days | Within 2 hours |
| Repair when the line is down | No fixed term | A fixed term on working days, per network | 4 to 8 hours |
Installation takes 6 to 24 weeks
We request the line from the network that suits your address, also when the building is not yet in the address register. A technician of the network visits to decide where the fiber enters the building. You arrange access and a spot for the cabinet with power.
The network lays the fiber and installs the glass switch. We follow the planning and call you when something is needed. On delivery we set up your router and test everything on site. Until then you can work over 5G, in place within a few working days.
- Fiber in the building
- 6 to 13 weeks
- Fiber in the street
- 14 to 18 weeks
- Network digs further
- 16 to 24 weeks
- KPN has a spare fiber
- Sometimes 4 weeks
Questions we often get
Is a leased line the same as FTTO?
In practice, yes. A leased line, dedicated internet access and FTTO all mean a fiber that runs only to your building. Check one point in any quote: in the standard Dutch version the bandwidth is not guaranteed. If you need guaranteed bandwidth, ask for the Premium version.
How does it differ from shared business fiber?
Shared fiber shares capacity with other connections nearby and has a maximum speed in the contract. It costs from €49 a month and works within days when a connection is already there. A dedicated line has its own fiber and connection point, a symmetrical profile and service levels with a fixed repair time.
Can we use our own router or firewall?
Yes. Your router or firewall connects to the glass switch. You can manage it yourself, or we supply and manage it for you.
Can we have two lines over different networks?
Yes. The simplest option is a 5G backup next to the fiber, from €14 a month next to a dedicated line from us. For two fixed lines we choose two different networks and check the routes, because two providers on the same network can share the same trench. With your own IP space and BGP your addresses stay the same over both lines.
What happens to the equipment when the contract ends?
The glass switch belongs to the network and goes back when you cancel. Your router or firewall is yours, unless it is part of a managed service.
Can we choose a 12-month contract?
Yes. A 12-month contract is always available, next to the cheaper 36-month option. Fore Fiber only offers 36 months; if you want 12 months there, we look at another network.
